Summary

* New Listing – Opening Jan 2024 *

In Durgan village, beside the Helford River, time stands still. The secluded waters, which are sheltered by ancient oak forests, sparkle silver in the slow-moving current. Grey herons swoop low and glide above the water and ebony cormorants dip and dive below the surface in search of their dawn catch.

Restored, reinterpreted and curated, Cliffside’s coastal vibe slides seamlessly into its surroundings, a paean to the history and charm of the area, that speaks to its Cornish roots.

A detached, large home, perfectly formed with deeply inviting spaces for happy, bustling family life and endless entertaining. This is a place for the most unforgettable of multi-generational retreats.

A stone’s throw from the beach and the sheltered waters of the Helford River, the situation couldn’t be much more idyllic, in this historic fishing hamlet, with National Trust, Glendurgan Gardens and Fish Cellar ice cream shop right there also.

Inside, the ground floor of Cliffside is divided into two main spaces. Stroll through the front door and be led directly into the kitchen diner, where white beams stretch across the ceiling and grey slate tiles line the floor. The design is in keeping with the considered and quaint style of the house: pebble-blue cabinets and open, wooden shelving feature throughout, and a generous central island and breakfast bar. A double-sided wood burning stove sits happily in its own glass case and links the sitting room to the kitchen-dining area.

There are plenty of modcons to suit contemporary living. The ground floor is equipped with underfloor heating and the kitchen is kitted out with a professional Mercury range cooker. The utility area is tucked away behind the kitchen and conveniently has a second sink, washer, tumble dryer and cloakroom.

The sitting room offers an appealing place to relax for a large group. Here, there is rustic charm in abundance and space to gather and connect. Flanked by windows on two sides, the natural light lends its pretty softness. Play cards around the circular table, or gaze out the window watching the gulls soar and boats drift along the estuary. The generous seating is perfect for large groups to come together for an evening of anecdotes. Chat until the wee hours and after a delicious sleep in the sumptuous beds, step onto the shoreline for a morning dip and to scour the best seashells.

Treading the staircase up to the first floor, comfort unfolds in the four double bedrooms which spill off from the central hallway. The collection of antiques bring a patina to the rooms. Layers of colour – from the painted walls, hanging artworks and patterned fabrics – enhance the mix of grand rugs, flattering furniture and antique finds. The co-ordinating shades and textiles create a feeling that things have evolved over time, like most great rooms have.

Every room with a river view offers a place to sit and admire it. Most spectacularly of all, a roll top bath has been added to the primary bedroom where one can view life on the river whilst bobbing in warm bubbles. It is the perfect vantage point for this magnificent vista, the greens, greys and blues of which are reflected in the tasteful decor.

Up another level, the eaves house two twin bedrooms; decorated with unique narratives, yet each working together as a harmonious whole, fused by a landing with sea view vista. Children can slip away for late-night chats or grown-up guests can unfurl in secluded comfort.

At Cliffside, the owner’s commitment to the property shows up inside and out; a glorious melting pot of interest and considered design that makes a house a home.

Coastal comfort, combined with rural surrounding landscape, make this house a true year-round destination for groups of up to twelve.

We all loved our stay here (ages 2-68) having all been on the river throughout our lives. We arrived with boats, paddle boards, dog, nets, and we got out on the water every day and swam. Returning to beautiful Cliffside with those amazing views was just fantastic. The whole newly done cottage has been beautifully built and the attention to detail is such fun to discover. The bedrooms were soooo comfortable and the fabrics used throughout were so peaceful We just loved it and congratulations to all involved in the transformation of these cottages and now the upkeep of it all. Thank you all for letting us share this heavenly spot
