Summary

Rising above the water at the edge of Port Navas Creek, the cedar-clad Dinyan overlooks the turning of the tide and the shifting patterns of sunlight upon the trees of the Helford River.

An architectural marvel unique in this part of Cornwall, Dinyan was designed to sit perfectly within its surroundings. Three balconies allow vantage points to watch as wildlife, boats, and the movements of the day slowly pass you by. This striking property offers a unique interior, and views of the creek extend from each of the principal rooms. Reclaimed lighting offers a nod to the important nautical past of the now-quiet Port Navas – the statement brass lights that illuminate the living area sailed the seven seas aboard a ship before finding their home at Dinyan.

Birdsong greets you as you step onto any of the balconies and into the embrace of the woods that line the creek. Then, once the sun’s golden light rises and hits the treetops, the stage is set for the day ahead. The tranquillity of the Helford River is unparalleled, but that’s not to say excitement isn’t close by. Wholesome adventures abound for all the family, whether diving into crystal-clear waters or kayaking upon its near perfectly calm surface. Swim here in the peaceful waters of the Helford River, or hire or bring your own boat and moor at the nearby Port Navas Yacht Club.

Come the evening, hunker down in style beneath the vaulted double-height ceiling, with the crackling of logs on the wood-burner casting a warming glow. Or watch the stars emerge in indigo skies from the riverside garden as the sunlight fades, and let the peace of the creekside soothe and relax you as thoughts turn naturally towards the comfort of your bed.

You can share the magic of this experience with family or friends by booking The Studio, a unique one-bedroom cottage situated at the edge of the grounds, just a short stride up the creek.

NB. Dinyan is not suitable for under 5’s, or unsupervised children, due to the close proximity to the creek and the height from the low opening, sitting room windows.

The Helford River is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and the creekside upon which Dinyan sits is designated a site of special scientific interest. A shoreline made up of creeks and sandy coves lined with ancient woodland remains relatively unchanged thanks largely to the National Trust, and public footpaths and public rights of way make it accessible for all to enjoy.

A short walk down the lane under dappled light leads to Port Navas, a hamlet comprised mainly of stone cottages set on the quayside. Port Navas has a cheery yacht club at the edge of the creek serving great food, although booking ahead is essential as space there is very limited. Enjoy the Helford River from the water by hiring a boat from Sailaway St Anthony, or the nearby Helford River Boats (boats can be delivered to and moored at the yacht club). Then set off to discover the magic of the Helford from the water.

Just two miles from the property you’ll find Constantine, a pretty village with all the essentials on hand. The hidden gem that is Constantine Stores – a spirits and rare wine store with the largest collection in the South West – can also be found in the village.

A thriving food scene continues to evolve in the vibrant harbourside town of Falmouth, just a short drive away, where you’ll find a superb collection of independent restaurants and offerings from award-winning chefs, such as Rick Stein and Michael Caines.

The dramatic North Coast of Cornwall, around forty-five minutes by car, is home to the waves that make Cornwall such a mecca for surfers, and you’ll find surf schools offering tuition for all the family. The scale of the cliffs and the beaches are awe-inspiring and certainly in contrast to the tranquility of the Helford, and there viewers of Poldark will also find many familiar scenes.

The Lizard Peninsula is just over thirty minutes by car, with its very own dramatic cliffs and crashing waves. And with great walks for families and dogs, and plenty of stunning beaches, the area around the UK’s most southerly point is a must-see destination.

Children: Please note that the house and garden are NOT suitable for under 5’s due to low opening windows, high drops from the first-floor living space, the creek side location and some steep areas surrounding the house and garden.

Pets: One well behaved dog welcome @ £30 per week, with the expressed permission of the owner. No dogs under 1 year of age.

Towels: One bath and hand towel, per person, provided. Please bring your own beach towels.

Fuel: One basket of logs provided (October to Easter).

Beds: If taking an under-occupancy discount, please inform us which bedroom/s need to be made up, otherwise the master bedroom/s will be used.

Zip & Link beds: These beds will be made up as super-kings unless you have requested otherwise. Please email your bed requirements to info@cornishholidaycottages.net at least ten days before your arrival.

Wooden floors: Please take care as the wooden floors and internal staircases could be a slip hazard if you are wearing socks. We suggest you bring grippy socks or slippers for indoor wear, or go barefoot. Please do not wear shoes in the rooms with carpets.

Parking (take care): Dinyan is in a secluded, tucked away position on the water’s edge. The village itself is accessed by some fairly windy country lanes, over a mile stretch. Please take care as the bottom of the drive is adjacent to the creek edge. Please familiarise yourself with the layout before turning your car around. There is parking for two cars, but if these are large, they will take some manoeuvring to get in and out. We suggest one car remains at the top of the drive.

Environment: Dinyan is heated via an eco-friendly, air-source heat pump and has solar panels to reduce the impact on our environment.

Electric car charging: A wall electric car-charging point is provided at the bottom of the driveway.
