Lynn, staying at Rose Cottage 3
The true value of a room with a view; from the cottage towards the Helford River by night.

Helford River
From the stable door of Rose Cottage 3, you’ll catch a glimpse of the sea, as the beach lies just a few steps away. Stroll down first thing in the morning for a refreshing dip before breakfast. After all, there are very few better ways to start a day than with a swim in calm waters where nature enriches the landscape. One of the most sought-after properties in the Cornish Holiday Cottages portfolio, Rose Cottage 3 shares its spot on the river with cormorants and herons and the handful of other cottages that make up this idyllic little hamlet.
Supremely characterful and full to the brim with that traditional Cornish cottage charm, the open-plan living and kitchen area leads you out to the courtyard garden shared with two other cottages (which are also available to rent) to enjoy shared moments. The woodburner sets the atmosphere for evenings nestled beside the fire, unwinding after days spent out playing in nature.
Anyone who has spent time on the Helford will tell you of its magic. Adventurous families might take to the water for thrilling boat trips or kayaking expeditions, readers will enjoy finding sunny spots to settle down on one of the many beaches that line the shores, while ramblers will embrace the footpaths that weave from sea to woodland and back again in this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
As the walkers and day-trippers head out at the end of the day, Durgan basks in the hush that envelops it. Wrap up and watch the sunset from the tree stump on the hill overlooking the hamlet, telling stories or making plans for tomorrow as you do. On a clear night, the sky becomes a canvas for stars, while at certain times of the year phosphorescence gleams in the water with each breaking wave. Memories are made on holiday – and the ones made at Rose Cottage 3 are sure to last a lifetime.

The tiny hamlet of Durgan sits on the banks of the Helford River on the South Coast of Cornwall, nestled between trees and a sandy beach. Surrounded by acres of National Trust land, this idyllic and unrivalled location is as if plucked straight from a fairytale.
A short and beautiful walk along the coast path will lead you through to Helford Passage. Here you’ll find boats for hire, a sandy beach, and the superb Ferryboat Inn serving delicious pub food and drink right beside the water. Sit on the terrace with a glass of wine and watch the kids play on the beach beside you for the perfect compromise!
Glendurgan Garden sits just behind the cottage. This subtropical garden is owned by the National Trust, and here little ones can run through the laurel maze or learn about all the rare plants and wildlife that thrive in the garden. When you’re done exploring, relax and enjoy an ice-cream on the beach from the fish cellar in Durgan, a small booth just opposite the cottage run by the National Trust in summer.
A short forty-five minute drive will take you to Cornwall’s rugged North Coast, famous for surfing beaches and dramatic scenery. St Ives is also just a forty-five minute drive away, and you’ll be able to get to most places of interest in Cornwall in just under an hour. The Lizard is a twenty-five minute drive. Falmouth, the closest town to Durgan, is a treasure trove of food and culture. From the festivals that take place almost every other week in the summer to the shops, cafés and waterside pubs, it’s a treat of a town and the perfect change of pace from Durgan.

Lovely, cosy cottage in a wonderful location. Lots to do from the doorstep with walks up and down the coast. Falmouth worth a visit with plenty to visit further afield too.

Just recently stayed in Durgan (Durgan Burgan according to my 3 year old) and it remains the most wonderful place in the world, 20 years on from when I was last there. Thank you!

Morning swims in Durgan followed by a hot shower in the wet room are why I keep coming back here.

The cottage felt even cosier in the biting easterly winter winds! With best wishes, Roger & Frances Robinson

We had just had a bbq on the beach and were sitting in the courtyard watching the moon rise over the Helford. Bliss.
