Location and Surrounding Area
Set in one of Cornwall’s most idyllic corners, the Maenporth, Falmouth and Helford River area is a haven for lovers of coastal charm and countryside serenity. With unspoiled beaches, tempting restaurants, and a treasure trove of activities, this beautiful stretch of coast offers the perfect blend of relaxation and adventure, tailor-made for your next holiday.
Maenporth Beach is the quintessential Cornish shoreline—soft golden sands, shallow waters, and the ever-present sound of waves gently rolling in. Families will adore its easy access waters for paddling, while couples can stroll hand-in-hand along the shore.
Head south along the South West Coast Path to the secluded Nansidwell Cove. Spring to summer Lattes and the like can be purchased from the coffee box at the bottom of the Meudon Hotel. Sheltered and serene, Nansidwell and Bream Cove are peaceful spots for picnics or an afternoon of quiet reflection. And just beyond, the Helford River awaits, a paradise of meandering waterways and picturesque woodlands.
Delicious Local Dining. When it’s time to refuel, Falmouth and the Helford River area are brimming with culinary delights. Explore our guide to the local area to see our favourite things to do.
For a waterside Cornish pub experience, The Ferryboat Inn sits proudly on the edge of the Helford River. Think hearty plates of fresh seafood, riverside views, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. If you’re exploring further afield, nearby Falmouth’s vibrant food scene is waiting to impress, with its mix of laid-back eateries and fine dining experiences.

Adventures on land and sea. Adventure calls from every direction here. The Helford River is a playground for those who love being on the water—hire a kayak or paddleboard and glide through its calm waters, discovering secret inlets and hidden creeks along the way. Frenchman’s Creek, famously the setting for Daphne du Maurier’s novel, is a serene must-see for those who crave a little mystery in their explorations. If you’re looking to try cold water swimming or need a refreshing dip on a warm summer day, read about our favourite Falmouth and Helford swimming spots.
Prefer dry land? Stroll among the lush subtropical plants at Trebah Garden and Glendurgan Garden, two stunning spaces where paths lead to their own private beaches. The woodland walks and coastal trails in the area offer breathtaking views and are a great way to soak in Cornwall’s natural beauty.
Make Your Stay Unforgettable. From lazy days on the beach to exploring tranquil gardens and enjoying world-class dining, the Falmouth area is a destination that stays with you long after you’ve left. With so much to discover, every day here can be as relaxing, or as adventurous as you choose.
Come and create your own holiday in Cornwall. There’s no better base for your escape than Seahorses.

It is difficult to put into words just how much my wife and I enjoyed our recent stay at Seahorses. From the minute you arrive on the private drive and you first see the property and the extensive sea view through the beautiful wrought iron gates you know you are somewhere special and it isn’t going to disappoint. Don’t be mistaken, Seahorses is a holiday destination in itself and not just another holiday let in Cornwall. The house is furnished to the highest standards you could imagine; everything is simply top class. When preparing meals in the superbly equipped kitchen you are continually distracted by the fantastic vista across the bay towards Falmouth. The lounge and dining areas also share the same fantastic view across the bay, as does the first floor and roof top external balconies with their beautiful teak furniture There are four double bedrooms, three of which have ensuites, the master bedroom also has the largest dressing area I have ever seen. All the bedrooms open on to the gardens and have sea views. There is also a further self-contained pool house with a double bed and ensuite. The gardens are well laid out and include a hot tub, separate swimming pool, large patio, a BBQ area with a granite table were you could imagine King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table eating. The excellent house manager popped by to see us and gave us a few suggestions of places to visit if we ever felt the need to leave Seahorses that is. Seahorses will provide a memorable holiday for up to 10 people.
