Summary

Set back in the peaceful village of Mawnan Smith, just north of the Helford River, Trevone offers a tranquil space, away from your usual life, for you to soak up breakfasts al fresco, table tennis on the terrace and G+Ts at sundown in the garden.  A short 5-minute drive will take you to the stunning beaches of Porth Saxon, Grebe, and Durgan on the Helford River, making this modern, comfortable home an ideal retreat for both relaxation and adventure. This holiday home is in a prime location for time spent walking the south west coast path and if your legs will carry you two hours, into the vibrant town centre of Falmouth. That bit of coast path never fails to take our breath away.

Nestled on a quiet lane, Trevone makes it easy to slip into holiday mode with plenty of natural light and gorgeous garden vistas. Step inside the welcoming hallway featuring an original decorative wall panel, a hint of the home’s history. The heart of this home is the artwork that hangs on the walls, colourful woodblock prints, and expressive abstract paintings, whilst retro and artisan ceramics adorn the shelves.

Along the hallway, Scandinavian-inspired bedrooms invite the morning sun. Three comfortable rooms – the main bedroom and a larger twin room feature views over the garden, with verdant green, hills in the background. The second cosier twin room looks out onto the front terrace, flower bed and driveway. Morning visits to the general store will feature fresh baked goods, local meats, cheeses and other essentials. In the coastal blue and oak kitchen, prepare your morning brew in the cafetière and pour over your holiday read before you start your day. The large open-plan living area, with its French doors opening onto a sunny deck, offers panoramic views of lush green fields. In the mornings, the cows graze idly in the distance. The mature garden, home to fruit trees and pastel blue hydrangeas provides a delightful space for relaxation.

The grassy garden, fully enclosed is ideal for playing games and soaking up the sun on the deck with cool drinks in the afternoon. As evening falls, snuggle up on the sofa in front of the fire with a warm cocoa and a game of Monopoly, creating precious holiday memories that will last a lifetime.

The heart of Mawnan Village, the Red Lion pub, is popular among locals and visitors alike for good ales and standard pub fodder, keep an eye out for their lively quiz night. A charity shop, café and hair salon fill the local square. The quiet Porth Saxon Beach is not far from your doorstep, a leisurely 30-minute walk takes you through the village and through the magical Carwinion Woods. Skim stones and paddle in clear waters. Helford Passage and the hamlet of Port Navas offer two not to be missed foodie spots, with calamari and Budddha bowls at The Ferryboat Inn and a fragrant fish plate at the Port Navas Yacht Club.

Trevone is a stone’s throw from some of Cornwall’s most magnificent gardens, including Trebah Garden and Glendurgan Garden. Four miles of footpaths wind through Trebah’s exotic landscapes, transporting you to sunnier climes. With its own beach and countless magical corners, this garden is a haven for exploration. At Glendurgan, lose yourself in the cherry laurel maze and marvel at the many horticultural specimens set among wildflower meadows. For a touch of adventure, embark on a Helford river cruise and experience the area that inspired Daphne du Maurier’s Frenchman’s Creek. At Trevone, you are sure for an authentic Cornish retreat in the charming village of Mawnan Smith.

Walks are plentiful at Trevone. Stroll through Mawnan Village down to the church, where you can embark on a scenic 4-mile circular walk. This route offers spectacular views of Rosemullion Head, secluded coves, and the beautiful Helford Estuary. It’s especially lovely in the springtime, when bluebells and wild garlic bloom beneath the trees, and an assortment of wildflowers grow on the coastal grassland on Rosemullion Head such as rare Green Winged Orchids. In autumn, this walk is perfect for birdwatching, as seabirds pass offshore, and you might spot storm petrels among the terns and skuas.

A short drive away is the bustling harbour town of Falmouth. Here, you can explore independent cafes, shops, delightful bakeries, and handmade crafts. The harbour town offers a wealth of water-based activities, from paddleboarding at Gyllyngvase Beach to snorkelling at Castle Beach and around Pendennis. Boat rides are also plentiful, providing ample opportunities to enjoy the stunning coastal scenery and vibrant marine life from the water. If you’re fascinated by local wildlife, visiting The Seal Sanctuary in Gweek is well worth your while. Say hello to the resident seals frolicking in their pools and watch their feeding sessions. Walk the pretty grounds meeting the other animals and enjoy the on-site café.
