Situated in a former bank and old council one-stop shop in Church Street, The Cornish Bank is a large and colourful live-music event space founded by record shop owner, Will Greenham and arts and music event space owner, Rufus Maurice.
Coming from a DIY world where they continuously worked together alongside the community to build, revamp and fix, both jumped at the chance to get their hands dirty and invite local craftspeople to transform the space.
Bringing together live music, gigs, food, drink and creative events, this is a community-focused space with bags of character and a welcoming and eccentric atmosphere.
Inside, tall sash windows grace visitors with glorious glimpses of the harbour, while Cornish light streams onto vibrantly painted walls. Large red curtains drape around the front which creates a theatrical feel and wooden tables and old-school chairs come together to form a character-rich and casual environment. With an ambiance that’s casual, homey, and approachable, it’s the perfect spot to spend a rainy day or lively evening and provides ample opportunity to meet friendly locals and Cornish creatives.
Outside they have a seating area with a view of the harbour, it’s a humble and hidden place for a glass of wine or pint with one of their rustic pizzas.
The Cornish Bank offers a long list of upcoming events from local, national, and international bands, songwriters, poets, and comedians, as well as regular community days, art workshops and foodie evenings. In 2022 they also launched the Wanderfal Music festival that allowed attendees to wander between stages and venues including Underland and Princess Pavilion, and experience a variety of genres.
