Things to do in Cornwall in October
We’ll be embracing the woolly layers, the season of crackling bonfires and the gathering and storing of delicious luxuries to prepare us for winter hibernation. Alongside the return of nostalgic senses and our desire to batten down the hatches we reveal our favourite things to do during early autumn.
Did you know that there is dramatically lower than average rainfall in Cornwall from September to November, making October a brilliant time to visit!
1. Foraging
Foraging for seasonal treasures is a wonderful way to experience the changing Cornish landscape and understand the wild ingredients that form the menus of the very best local eateries. 2. Rockpools
Empty October beaches cry for long strolls, quick dips in the sea and exploring the nooks and crannies. One soul-enriching thing we enjoy doing, while the sands are silent, is clambering along the low-tide rocks to glimpse into the world of treasure-trove pools. From tiny starfish and snapping crabs, to transparent prawns and curious coral, the changing tide always guarantees new marine life.
3. Traditional Pubs
One of the best things about the cooler seasons in Cornwall is the abundance of cosy pubs that dot the Cornish villages, and the fine excuse we have to sit comfortably by the fire with a pint and a hearty pub lunch. Some of our favourite waterside inns include The Star & Garter, The Pandora Inn and The Shipwright Arms.
4. Woodland Walks
Autumn is a time of wonder, with the kaleidoscope of colour, crunchy carpets of leaves and earthy aromas. Walking outdoors in the Cornish woods in October, surrounded by the joys of the season can restore a sense of calm. Our favourite spots are Trelissick, Tehidy Woods and Kennall Vale.
5. Beach Time with the Dogs
With quieter months comes beaches that when explored at the right moment, can feel like our very own secret secluded paradise. And by October 1st, dogs are welcome on virtually all Cornish beaches. Our four-legged pals jump for joy at the fresh freedom this brings. Some beautiful beaches that are especially lovely to be explored and enjoyed in October include Gyllyngvase, Porthmeor, Sennen and Carbis Bay Beach.
